Request (owner, 2026-09-30)

"Money off by default. Actually this should be decided in the onboarding. Please file an issue for the onboarding flow design ... we need to design the money onboarding too! let's keep it vanilla for now."

Scope (grill first; do not build until answered and recorded in DESIGN.md)

  1. Instance and User onboarding flow: the first run after sign-up. Which modes and plugins the User turns on (Calendar, Tasks, Notes, Files, Photos, Mail, Contacts, Money), Connected Accounts, importing existing data, App Passwords for devices (Calendar, Reminders, Files), the default Home layout, and theme. It must be skippable, resumable, and every step reachable later from Settings.
  2. Money onboarding: creating the first budget, currency, adding accounts (debit, credit, tracking, per the account-kinds decision on #462), opening balances, optional starter categories (the owner currently wants vanilla: no starter categories), detecting card and EMI accounts from statements or email, and the first assignment of Ready to Assign.
Until this lands: Money is off by default, and the User turns it on in Settings → Plugins.
