"we should make presets tied to the onboarding or even the first time the user opens money."

Scope (grill first)

  • The first time a User opens Money (or in the Money step of onboarding, #475), offer category presets: for example Essentials (Rent, Groceries, Utilities, Transport), Lifestyle, Savings goals, and India-specific ones (EMIs, insurance premiums, SIPs, festival funds), plus "Start empty" (the current vanilla default).
  • Presets are plain Markdown templates the User can edit. Picking one writes normal category files; nothing is special afterwards.
  • Include account setup in the same flow (Debit, Credit, Loan, Tracking), with opening balances, and suggest cards and loans found in Mail statements when Mail is connected (see the Money x Mail issue).
  • Localised preset names; no sample transactions or sample money (no fake data).
