Mail: real Apple Mail acceptance crashes during mailbox mutations #1031

Real Apple Mail acceptance for #486 failed with a client crash on macOS 27.0 (26A428), Mail, at 2026-10-04 10:35:11 Mac time. Tested server code: 393c7ca9b; subsequent commits change only the VNC test helper and procedure.

The isolated account had downloaded its 2,002-message Inbox and discovered unified folders and the account parent. Test actions before the crash: read and flag Weekend walking plan; save Apple acceptance draft; open that saved draft; move Weekend walking plan to Archive; delete Community garden schedule. Only the new generated account was targeted. An AppleScript request to create a message viewer then stopped responding. Mail's process was gone; the local server remained healthy.

The crash file is /Users/calternalvm1/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Mail-2026-10-04-103511.ips. The test server's mutation and transfer jobs completed without retry; Dovecot has the saved draft and an Archive copy. At the first receipt check, the Inbox source still existed. Root cause is not established: this may be a Mail persistence defect or an interoperability defect. Do not claim a server fix from this stack alone. Sending was never attempted.

Acceptance must stay failed until this sequence works without a crash, the move removes its source, deletion reaches Trash, and saved drafts reopen for editing. Use generated fixture data and the existing Mac lock. Never dump credentials, raw protocol LOGIN or full profile responses into a report.

Repair acceptance on native server 197e38295: no new Mail crash throughout folders, bodies, attachment, Seen/flags, archive/delete, draft save/edit, offline reconnect and concurrent web updates. Final diagnostic listing contained only the earlier Mail-2026-10-04-103511.ips. Both source-removing transfer operations completed with exact provider receipts and live web updates. Native acceptance and screenshots are on #486; bounded command transcript is on #1032. Provider sync retries remain tracked in #1037. No issue closed.
